Arvest Bank - Check Cashing Review from Tulsa, Oklahoma

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I had an Arvest check to cash and they absolutely REFUSED to cash it through the drive through, even though there was NO ONE else in the drive through. Pathetic, lazy and rude!

This was the Tahlequah branch! I used to bank with Arvest, but their poor customer service is why I left and today just confirmed I made the right decision!

How much was the check for? More than $2500?

They won't cash it if its over that limit. They want to be able to count it out to a client inside in front of cameras so that there is no disagreement over whether all of the funds were received by you.

I used arvest as my bank for a couple of years, and most of the time things were fine until I started getting overdraft fees. I got a PayPal card and when I would use PayPal to buy anything, I assumed if the money wasn't in my actual PayPal account it would come off of the card since they were linked, but somehow they were being taken from my arvest card instead. I made some purchases that all went through on different days, and since I primarily use PayPal now I didn't notice that my bank account was negative and getting flooded with overdraft fees. I've even gotten 2 different fees in a day. I talked to customer support on the phone twice, talked to people in banks 3 different times and no one would empathize with my situation or try to help me at all. I've gotten at least 15 $17 fees in the past 2 months and I desperately needed that money back. But apparently unless it's a "bank error" everyone everywhere is a useless robot. I was even to the point of crying the last time I went to the bank and basically begging for anyone to help me and no one cared. No one even asked if I was okay. Everyone just acted like I wasn't sitting there devestated. So thanks, Arvest! Enjoy all my money you essentially stole since I asked 3 different times for my account to not be able to have money pulled out if there are insufficient funds. You obviously just ignore what anyone actually needs to be done so you can keep taking whatever money you possibly can.

Quite Possibly the WORST Bank Ever

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Way too many holds on checks that are deposited for no particular reason given. We are not talking high dollar checks either, we are talking checks less than $2,000, written on local banks that CAN be verified. They even tried to place a hold on a check from someone that we had deposited a check from 4 times in the past, and the check always cleared. Our account has had no checks that DID NOT clear EVER!!! They are the hardest bank to work with without question. That's why I've gone back to my credit union. I would not recommend this bank to anyone in the Springfield, MO area.

Review from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

If I go overdrawn they charge me an overdraft fee for every single time I have used my debit card previous to going overdrawn! For example, I get paid, make several purchases, go overdrawn a week later because I pulled cash out of ATM and they literally CHANGE THE DATE of all previous transactions even if they were a week prior and charge a fee for each one.

I never use my card if I'm overdrawn but doesn't matter to them. When I asked about this I was told it was because I pulled cash out of the ATM. Then they said none of the transactions had actually cleared yet.

What a horrible bank. Stealing people's money.

This is not a bank issue, it is a card processing issue and it occurs at every bank. You use your card to make a purchase, the business does a soft hold on your acct for the funds to make sure they are available, and typically by the next business day the company "posts" your purchase through their merchant services provider, essentially telling VISA and ultimately the bank that you owe them the money for a purchase and they are deserved of those funds.

SOMETIMES, companies wait to "batch" their card transactions therefore delaying their claim to the funds until a later date. The bank just goes off of the info they receive. If a company does claim the funds until a week later, the bank doesn't give it out. A recent occurrence of this was the Starbucks on the UCO campus in Edmond, OK.

The employees didn't know that they had to "batch" their card transactions and went a couple of months without doing so. But then this was noticed and the location went ahead and batched out. With a 60 day requirement to batch transactions for companies, this means that some students saw purchases hit their bank accounts and credit card accounts from up to 2 months ago, and as a lump sum! Some kids were charged over $200 because they had spent that over the past couple of months at that particular Starbucks.

You can avoid this delay to a certain extent by using the Debit function of your bank card rather than the typical Credit function.

You'll need to know your PIN number to the card in order to do this though.

And also remember, it isn't the bank's responsibility to keep track of when you make purchases and how your acct is doing, that is your job. They just process the info they receive.

Resolved: Can't get a short term business loan any longer

Updated by user Dec 17, 2015

I opened an account with USAA and they are great at lending me short term business loans at low rates! USAA also sets me up with a checking and savings account as well as vehicle loans.

Original review Aug 12, 2014
I have been a small business owner here in town for the past 26 years. Cash flow is always a concern in this type business so we use short term business or personal loans to make payroll until the first of the month.

6 months ago I wanted to borrow $1,000 and pay back over 6 months. To speed the process I put up my vehicle as collateral. At the end on 6 months I had the loan paid off and asked for another loan just like it. To my surprise they said their guidelines had changed and they couldn't make the loan.

These practices are really putting a strain on the small business owner.

It's a shame what the banking industry has become since they received all that "Bailout Money". They tell you that they want your business, but when it comes right down to it, they won't help you.

Poor cust. Serv. and lack of utilizing resources

On 8/21/14, went into the second bay at drive thru Sit there 10+ minutes, (this was around 7:00 pm and they weren't busy) went thru opened all mail and read, finally pushed call button (girl at drive thru was talking entire time (casual conversation) and no one had got with me as to whether my payment was being processed for my Arvest (Security Bankcard payment). Then she says she cannot process my payment because the account number was not on it.

(Funny they processed it last month without it a problem). Then she asks for my credit card. Told her I didn't have it on me. She states again that she needs my credit card #.

I pull around front and go inside. Another lady there is assisting her now and she asks for my checking acct # which could have been done in drive-thru and she processes it. No one verified my password on my acct. Asked why couldn't she have looked up acct# when in drive and she said "well, that was going to be my next question".

Every time I come to this branch at 43rd and Garnett, it seems to always be new people. Used to go to the location between Mingo and Memorial on 61st st. Great customer service, prompt, efficient, and never forgot to verify pertinent information. Yet that branch was closed.

I will NEVER go to the #563 location again. Fed Up with all the trainees. Per receipt: 7:21:22 pm on 8/21/14. Girl had dark brown/black hair; obviously new.

PS: I am glad that the credit card #s are no longer on statements - better protects against fraud. Thank you for that.

Charged Outrageous Fee

I deposited a check from an auto insurance company in the country of Panama in the amount of $315.68. Arvest charged me a fee of $35 plus an "exchange rate fee" of $163.50. There is no exchange rate. The country of Panama uses the american dollar as its currency. Google it. The way Arvest communicated this to me was a single piece of paper (3" X 8") that had no explanation nor a contact number. When I spoke to "Justin" in customer service, he refused to help in any way. And when I asked for his name or number, so I could include it in this review, he was somewhat *** in his attitude. Since starting a relationship with Arvest Bank back in 2007, I have noticed a significant change in their policies and their customer service helpfulness and friendliness.

Pointless Customer Service Review

After being a loyal Arvest account holder since before the name of the back was Arvest, they decided after 15+ years to put one straight in my *** with an $18/month service charge starting last night! What the ***!? If this doesn't get waived and resolved, I'll be raising holy *** in the local branch. My call this morning to their customer service was pointless since the person I talked to sounded like a 12 year old boy.

Arvest Bank - Loan Review from Doylestown, Pennsylvania

Gross negligence at date of closing on my home loan. No call, no show, no info, no one available to help me. Loan officer went on vacation the week that the loan was supposed to close. Cost me $400 for a survey that was never presented to the seller agent, ultimately resulting in the expiration of our contract and the refusal to renew it by the seller. Worst of all, the house sold to someone else while I was applying for a loan at a different bank. I truly believe the loan officer and the new buyer were in collusion, although I have no proof.

Worst Arvest experience of my life.

This bank I been with for about 1 year now. I have actually thought they were a great bank until the day I went head to head about an simple invoice/bank error. Now the true self came out from this bank. They were rude, did not help..made me find my own way of helping. And on top of that made ridicule remark "me love you long time".. All because I went straight to the bank manager since, his, not so helpful, very racist *** staff did not offer to help me. After it was all said and done. They got a nerve to make remarks and laugh at me behind my back. Thinking I did not hear that rude remark. All I came in to bank was to deposit more money..what a waste of my time. I wonder how they like to hear what and how this bank is thinking of them behind their backs? I didn't even get an apology! Teaching business communication to intercultural business is what the Arvest banks needs to do instead of *** tellers spreading gossip and taking breaks behind the doors. Most of the time they are not even in their desk. I am standing for my rights. I do want respect. I am human, I have feelings. I do not want to feel that I am *** and don't know what I am doing. I graduated high school. Went to College..Just because I's black. They have no right to turn their backs and laugh at me because I was like any normal person checking on an error...but I's ain't white.

This isn't my complaint. My mother(who lives with me)wrote this using our computer and when I logged on it went into my account for some reason. I don't bank with those foos at Arvest since I left *** Arkansas.

You think this bank is bad.Try doing business with JP MORGAN CHASE BANK.The manager has the worst attitude i have ever encountered in my entire life.He is even "Rude" To his staff. He walk's into the bank right. He does not even say "Good Morning" To anyone all he say's is we are going to have a meeting point blank. The staff just drop's their head's.It is a shame.I do not even know how he got his job evidently he know's someone in the banking line of business. But guess what,I withdrawed all my money and Carried it to another bank. You do not have to put up with this type of treatment from anyone especially a bank that has your account.Honey by all mean's withdraw your money and Go elsewhere.

If you went to college, drop the black talk, even if you are doing it to be funny. There is no reason to use terms like "***" and "I's." Actually you could have started your complaint out better by saying something like "I've been with this bank," instead of "this bank I been with." Half way through your complaint you change the reason for going into the bank. All in all your complaint is full of grammatical errors.

Tellers need to mind their own business.

I went to deposit just 50 cents into my account today to keep an overdraft from happening(I get paid tomorrow). I went through the drive-thru, put my money and slip into the thing, and I saw the teller at the window opening it up and laughing and telling the other tellers about it.

She spent a long time processing it too and asked for my address and just made the trip overall embarrassing. What I put into my account is the business of only me and the teller making the deposit, not the other tellers. Even that one teller is limited in how much of her business it is what I am putting into my account. She is supposed to drop it in give me the slip and let me go.

When I left all the other tellers were done with their customers and I could tell a few of them was glaring at me through the window.

This happened at the Arvest location at 3950 W. Sunset Avenue in Springdale, Arkansas BTW.

It is very unusual that a person would drive all the way to a bank just to deposit .50 into their account. And yes it is very funny also.If a person does not want to be treated as a "Retardo"Don't act like one.Learn to manage better and You will not have this problem. The teller could have been speaking about another matter and Not the .50 deposit. You probably felt *** for depositing the .50 and Now you are trying to make the teller be in the wrong. You have some nerve trying to place blame on someone else. The blame belong's on you only. You want to deposit .50 right,Are you serious?

Guest

The point is that there is nothing unlawful about it and the teller has no business discussing a transaction with another teller.

Courtnie Vei

Oh come on! I would have laughed too! I'll bet that was the first time they had seen a deposit like that.

They changed my accounts without authorization

I have 3 accounts at Arvest -- checking has overdraft protection. Backup account has over 30k in it, but they RETURNED a check for $795, when there was a balance of over $1400 in the checking account.

PLUS they removed my OD protections -- without my authorization. They are "sorry" -- I didn't choose this *** bank -- my BOA accounts were "acquired" -- which by Arvest - which has been a nightmare from day 1.

Don't EVER, EVER, EVER, put a penny in Arvest -- they will *** out of it, and it is never their fault.

Writ of garnishment

Tellers I was advised by Arvest Bank Management to write the judge a letter to sign after I took all my legal papers from court proving I had won a decision for "writ of Garnishment", when I really needed a "Order to Pay" signed by the judge, mailed by the court. Why can't management be trained in proper precudure.

This is my frist experience with Arvest Bank and it will be the last.

No way would I let them manage my money when they can not manage proper procedure. Tellers need better training on minding their own work space.

This is to "Hear And Now" and also to "Barry".Banks are alway's trying to give advice as to what you should do and What you should not do ok.I know because i had a situation with another bank about a "Power Of Attorney".I had a "Power Of Attorney" For my brother when he passed away.I carried the "Power Of Attorney" To the bank right. But the bank did not want to release the remainder of his money to me.They tried to tell me that i needed to hire an attorney to get the money from the bank right.I am like WTF.I have an "Power Of Attorney" How do you think i got it free?Well these "*** *** Bank People" Still refuse to give me my brother's money and Sent the remainder of his money to the "Unclaimed Property Division".As of this day i am still trying to get the money back.I have all the documentation that i need,But because the bank was so bent on not releasing the money to melook what happen. This is all their fault the bank.Trust the bank,Are you serious.I say *** the bank. They are dumb *** people that do not know their job's.Sorry piece of "S---.

Guest

Tellers are not attorneys and cannot (and should not) give legal advice. Why would you expect a teller to know something like that. Next time consult an attorney.

Guest

Why are you talking to tellers about the garnishment process? It's a back office issue.

Why are you seeking legal advice (i.e.

about how to properly levy funds) from bank tellers? Unless I misunderstood your post, I think your frustration would be better directed at the mirror rather than the bank.

Boycott Arvest Bank

I telephoned Arvest Bank this morning (11/11/11) to inquire about having a power of attorney notarized for my son who is a disabled Iraq/Afghanistan veteran. I was told this could be done at the local Elkins, Arkansas branch. When we went in to the branch a teller by the name of Devon told us that "the people who issue our notaries won't let us notarize for anyone other than customers."

Notaries are issued by the state. The state does not limit the notary to only performing services for customers of a particular banking institution. I am sure that what was meant was it was a bank policy. A very poor bank policy in my opinion. Policies like this will prevent me from every setting foot in any Arvest Bank for any reason whatsoever.

Banks and notaries have a duty to the public. This duty was failed today by the Arvest Bank in Elkins, Arkansas. Not only was this duty failed to the public at large - but it was failed to a disabled veteran. A young man who placed his life on the line for his country, became disabled as a result of it and now is treated as though it doesn't matter. Bank policy is more important than the needs of our vets.

I urge everyone to boycott Arvest. Close their doors. They do not deserve your business. To them you are only money - not people - not valued customers.

Banks are private, for-profit companies. Their loyalty is to their account-holding customers.

Although notary bonds are issued by the state, the state does not require a notary to provide his or her services to any and everyone. Notaries are not employees of the state and do not have "a duty to the public." I have worked in a bank in the past and I am a bonded notary and I have found that many people have the misconception that banks exist for the general public's convenience.

A bank is a business like any other, and the goal of a business is to make a buck. If you're not willing to pay for the service, you have can't complain.

Guest

While I agree that this was likely frustrating, it does not rise to the level of requesting a "boycott" of Arvest's services. One of the reasons why Arvest likely doesn't provide this service to non-account holders is the potential fear of being bombarded by request upon request even if there were to be a charge for the notary service. Obviously, this service is intended as a value added service for certain account holders and isn't really designed to be a paid service offering of the bank.

Guest

They have the right to do that if they want. Get over it.
